I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to win a free Lennox furnace from Kern Heating and Cooling Co through a 'Heat For Hero's' giveaway for military veterans. I was selected as the lucky winner, and Kern was kind and generous enough to gift me a furnace to replace my 23 year old one. Thier team came and closely evaluated my home and its needs. The HVAC technicians they sent were professional, highly competent, friendly, and they worked very quickly. The quality of work was nothing short of near-perfect. It is clear to me that Kern takes good care of thier customers, sets a great first impression, and has very skilled technicians. I look forward to being a loyal customer to them for many years to come.

From Nick to Nestor and everyone involved with this whole install, I can't say enough positive things. Professional and personable all at the sane time, clean, informative, thorough and some of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. Busted their butts on an ancient furnace to remove and install the whole works. After my old furnace "gave up the ghost", they were hard at work with the removal and install within 24 hours of my call to them. I will highly recommend KERN to anyone who needs the services they provide. Top of the hill for sure!

Angel, the technician showed up on the agreed time and took care of business in less than 90 minutes. He was professional and walked me through the process of replacing my thermostat after receiving an unexpected $500 gas bill, when it averaged $180 monthly. Ok, the coldest dang day of the year...my furnace goes out. Of course! I saw that Kern had serviced the furnace years before with the previous owner of the house, and boy am I glad I called. They were at my door in 20 minutes! It wasn't fixable, my furnace was really old, and they sent another person to give me a quote for a new furnace. Not only was it within a reasonable price, the warranty was great, and they installed it the next day, a Saturday! Every person involved was so nice and amazing. They really saved me when I was panicking on the coldest day. I will forever be using Kern and recommend them to anyone who needs some help. Thank you!

A big Thank You to the whole team, from diagnosis, recommendation, to installation. The whole process was complete in about 24 hours (1st meeting on Sunday afternoon and completed on Monday afternoon, and being super bowl Sunday great job).Very friendly, understanding of the urgency needed. Losing heat in frigid weather is a nightmare, so I am incredibly grateful to Kern Heating. They not only got me in for same-day emergency service but fixed the core issue immediately. My technician, Angel, was the epitome of professionalism. He put on shoe covers right away and checked with me before doing any work, showing great respect for my home. He went above and beyond by helping me install and program a new smart thermostat I had already bought, which was not even part of the main repair. He also gave excellent advice for keeping my furnace running well. Angel absolutely lived up to his name, saving me during their busy season! UPDATE: I've revised my rating to 5-stars because it takes a professional company to admit when they were wrong and rectify the problem. Technology is great, but it needs to be monitored. Keep up the great work! We never had a problem when we still lived in our home in Gurnee, but we moved out 5 years ago! They used to call, but now they have this AI chat bot that keeps reaching out vua text asking to do maintenance. I get it that automation can help small businesses, but it can also hurt a business when tech harnesses customers that used to refer customers to Kern. When the chat replied "Just so you know that I don't get tired...", maybe this review will put "Katherine", the AI chat bot, into timeout until they figure out they are driving customers away.

Very professional young man. Explained everything to my husband. He arrived early for appointment but let us know he was coming sooner- which was great since we had no heat!! Had Waldo again today to replace the part he needed to order. He is everything you expect a professional HVAC person to be. Great service , kept us informed of when he would arrive and completed the work in a short period. Highly recommend Kern Heating!!

Called Kern for heater maintenance. They came out the next day! Make sure my furnace was up and running. They also Installed a new Wi-Fi thermostat. Great service very quick response. Very happy. they’re also installed a new high-efficiency filter system

Called Kern after 5pm on a cold Friday night when I was unable to get our central heating systems boiler to start. Their technician (Gustavo) arrived at our house within the hour and began to troubleshoot the problem. After trying a number of solutions he removed the igniter which he discovered to be corroded. After lightly cleaning the “spark plug” with sand paper. After reinstalling the ignition unit, the system was back on line. The entire process took under one hour… Whew! Thank you Kern (Gustavo) for your fast and efficient Service.

Pros: Techs (one experienced and one in training) were very professional, polite, informative, and efficient. Appreciated that they took photos of the thermocouple in need of replacing as well as photo of replaced part. Gave us a good price on the boiler tune up work. Offers a veteran discount. Cons: Charged $479.00 (pre-military discount) to replace thermocouple and test operations. Received invoice in email later that day but there was no detailed breakdown for parts and labor regarding thermocouple repair…just price. Called the next day to ask for breakdown (like auto repair invoices) and told it wasn’t available because it’s a flat price. It doesn’t seem like an extraordinary inquiry/request and don’t care for lack of transparency. Could have done a better job cleaning up the debris after vacuuming the burners.

I called on a Sunday afternoon and was surprised to hear a real person on the other line. Within an hour of that call, Gustavo arrived and diagnosed the issue in 10 minutes. He let us know he had to order a part but reassured us it would likely be in stock and that he'd be able to come out the next day. Monday, he arrived ahead of schedule and we had heat again! We did NOT get charged extra for a weekend visit either which was also super great. Will be using them again!

A couple of weeks later now. We asked for a furnace and ac inspection. We were not sold on repairs that were not needed, we were told in laymans terms about our systems. I am really impressed with the professionalism of this company. Our water heater was not working well, not keeping up with the demand of water. I was able to make an appointment to fix, found out it was only a band aid, and then book an install all in one morning. The new water heater was installed within 24 hours of me requesting a fix appointment. The crew for the fix and the install (different folks) were so very nice and accommodating. They install crew even came before the install window. Would use these folks again.

Beyond happy with their work! Other guy at Preston heating tried to say my whole furnace needed replacing for $4200 or he could repair and quoted me $600 for blower parts replacement but these guys at Kern with a new capacitor ($5) and this Technician’s troubleshooting skills I didn’t need replacing the blower that the first tech said that needed replacing. Saved over $300-4000 in labor, new equipment and parts thanks to Erick and Kern!

Seth was immediately kind and smiling. Was friendly with my dog and explained what he would do for the tuneup and inspection and if he found anything important he would inform me. There were a couple of things and he explained thoroughly what they were for and I felt confident enough in his assessment that I opted to have the additional service. Overall, excellent experience.

Where do I start? It was all good till this furnace was installed. 4 techs later it started working, at first. Now here I am $6000 later up at 3 in the morning turning on the oven to keep the house warm??? Are you kidding me? I called once, and got the stiff arm from their sales rep, sorry forgot HER name. Refused to hear I needed a furnace with higher BTUs. NOTHING . SAID IT WAS THE RIGHT SIZE. I said I would pay the difference. Nope That monotone voice. So here I am with that mattel space heater trying to keep 2, 100 year old parents and a disabled person warm in 8 degree weather. IT CAN'T BE THE COST. I KNOW THESE FURNACES COST LIKE $2400. I AM SO FURIOUS RIGHT NOW that I will have to go out and buy another furnace that actually works!!

I switched to Kern last year after my previous company sold off after retirement. They came highly recommended. I had a new air conditioner put in last year and my yearly furnace maintenance. The technician was very knowledgeable and gave me clear explanations. They arrived on time and the price was very fair. At a time when many companies are out for themselves, I felt Kern was looking after the customers.

Good service in need is a good service indeed. When the inside temperature is 52 and outside is 24 you really need one! The guys fixed my heater in 3 hours, two of which took driving for the part. Very satisfied and highly recommend!

Waldo was excellent and professional at troubleshooting our hot water heater issue. He was able to quickly figure out what was the problem and cleaned the area and stayed to make sure there were no error codes. Friendly and knowledgeable!!
