I highly recommend Murray HVAC. I had them perform my winter check up. They changed or adjusted a sensor and I saved a significant amount on my heating bill this last year. My AC just went out and their original diagnosis was a bad compressor so I would have had to replace my split AC. The next day they let me know that they wanted to come out again to confirm the evaluation. They were here for quite a while and it was determined that I just needed a new capacitor and some freon. While not a cheap fix they saved me thousands on a needless AC replacement.

We've used Murray to replace a water heater, to repair a radiator leak and to regularly service our boiler and air-conditioner. They do fantastic work and they always bill fairly. An honest, quality contractor, what more could you want? I highly recommend Murray (particularly Cory - he's awesome) - they're excellent!

Murray HVAC has been timely, responsive, professional, and super informative. They have never tried to sell us on something we didn’t need. They know our house better than we do since they have served previous owners, which gives me confidence when dealing with a 100-yr old house. When our furnace went out, they came out quickly on a weekend to check it out and had a new furnace in within no time!

Cory came out to give an estimate/assessment for a possible furnace replacement. He was very patient, thorough and knowledgable as he took us through our options. Highly recommend, and when we do get to replacement, we will go with Murray HVAC.

We called up Murray HVAC a couple days ago for a second opinion after our furnace wouldn't kick on. Apart from our estimate being lower, the experience with their technician was night and day. The first guy walked in and just told us we needed to replace everything, he gave us his price, and left after charging us a hefty service call fee. With Murray, their tech, Cory, came out and walked us through the diagnostic process. He explained all of our options and seemed more like a concerned neighbor helping out, rather than a pushy salesman. After all was said and done, we couldn't be happier, he cleaned up a lot of small things without us asking, things that the previous tech said was "not included." Our new furnace and all the ductwork looks and runs fantastic. Murray HVAC gave us back our peace of mind and our warmth!

Murray installed not only a new furnace but also a new air conditioner. It took 2 guys 3 days to do the job since we have a very cramped space. They came on time, they were exceptionally tidy, and everything went without a hitch. There were no hidden charges. We've lived in this house for 40+ years, and we use Murray exclusively. Feel confident they will do the job.

Came home from vacation and the house was 80 degrees - AC not working. Corey was over in 20 minutes and immediately diagnosed and fixed the broken part. I only trust Murray with our heating/cooling needs.

We worked with Cory to complete the HVAC portion of the kitchen reno on our hundred year old home. Throughout the process, from the estimate to the finished product, Cory was thorough, communicative, kind and did excellent work. Highly recommend!

Cory from Murray was amazing! Saved us a new HVAC and completely fixed ours instead. Woke up the next morning after he came and was actually cold in our room! . Followed up after and was incredibly helpful.

This is a wonderful family owned business that I have used for years. Everyone is friendly and a joy to work with. They are always honest about what you do and don’t need, and their maintenance program is a great deal. Two visits a year (spring and fall) and they keep your systems in top working order. Plus you get a 10% discount on any non-maintenance services. At our last house they were single handedly responsible for keeping our 25 year old furnace in perfect working order.

We have a very old house with a complicate hvac situation. Murray HVAC went above and beyond to do what they could to make the best out of what was already there and fix all the problems we were having at a fair rate. Happy to support a local Evanston business.

I have used them 5 times. Large Commercial roof top units. Installed a boiler. Inside hanging heaters & HVAC work at my home. Every job has been done well. Experienced service/repair people.

The AC went out in one of my units and they came out within a couple of hours. Corey knew the problem right away, fixed it and charged a fair price. Highly recommend them!

Took a lot of time to walk me through the problem with my furnace before making the appointment. You just can't find service like this anymore. Definitely coming back.

Dennis, the owner operator, has always been friendly and available to discuss problems or plan work, and does the work himself. His staff are all wonderful -- I love work with Mike and Corey. This company is clear and does what it promises to do. They stick with their price quotes, and their prices are reasonable. Their work is meticulous. They take pains to clean up after themselves, and to explain everything about their findings and work. Their kindness and flexibility has no limits. I am lucky to have found Murray HVAC and to have them available when I have needed big jobs done. They are very responsive to emergencies -- i.e., if you lose heat in the winter, they come. Their office and scheduling is organized and they always call to let you know when they will come, and they do come when they say. I can't say enough good about this company and these people.

Without seeking prior approval, the technician did work and replaced coolant (at a ridiculous cost of $100/lb) and presented me with a bill for $1,600. Each time I checked in with him, he was vague about what problems he was finding. It's unacceptable to assume that a homeowner wants the work done. My 'checking in' wasn't implicit approval to proceed. I expected him to come to me with a diagnosis and a recommendation along with costs. That didn't happen. He was clearly uncomfortable when I questioned the bill. I pointed out that if the unit probably needs to be replaced, which he agreed, that it made no sense to dump $1,600 into it for a patch solution. Now, a month or so later, the AC is not working. Murray is the last company I would have do the work. We have since asked three other companies to quote on a new ac system and their professionalism and technical knowledge far exceeds our experience with Murray. We also had previously hired Shavitz to install a secondary ac system for a specific section of our house and were very impressed with their service and professionalism. (My mistake was to call Murray to service the other unit simply because they had been doing so for several years.)
This is not embellished in any way. They will likely post some reply saying we are nuts, but this is the only bad review we have ever written on Angie's list and is true. Murray installed our furnace 8 years ago and we have had them out for service calls 3-4 times since. Each time it seemed like our unit needed a "special part" that required multiple visits, despite the fact that it is a run of the mill Carrier unit. Our blower motor went out on a Saturday night. We called Murray since they purport to have expertise in the unit they installed. After an hour the technician informed me that it was a "special motor" that he did not have and needed to get from a warehouse for an extra $100 since it was night. The warehouse did not call him back, so he returned to install a temporary motor so the heat would work until Monday. They returned on Tuesday with the "special motor" and left a bill for $1000 even. What are the odds of it coming out to $1000 even...not high. In any event, my wife called the office to discuss it and was told the owner, Dennis, would call her back. In the mean time. the technician who had left the house, DROVE BACK AND CAME BACK INTO OUR HOUSE AND DEMANDED THAT MY WIFE SIGN THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THAT WE OWED THE $1000. She told him that she already called the office to discuss and that she would not sign. He then refused to leave until she signed it (I was on the phone with her and heard the whole thing). She had to call the police to remove him from our property. Remember, we are repeat customers. I spoke to the owner and he was completely unapologetic that his employee trespassed and scared a visibly pregnant woman and our 2 year old. I did not even mention that he kept his truck running the whole time he was at our house (something to do with the gas surcharge maybe?) and seemed to be padding 15 mins here and there with the multiple visits. It is not worth our time to dispute the bill, so we are just going to pay and let everyone know the truth. We should have checked Angie's List instead of just going with the easy choice. We figured that a long established business could be trusted to be professional. Live and learn.

UPDATE: The motor they provided burnt out after less than 2 years. I called another company to come out, even though I suspect it had to be under warranty still. Guess what...Murray installed a 1/2 hp motor in my furnace when the specs which are clearly written on the cover of the furnace call for 3/4 hp. I guess I did get a "special motor" after all.....the WRONG one! My wife wants me to call the BBB, but I have no more energy around it.

It was okay but it got a little pricey for what they did.

They did an excellent job. They were quick about getting it installed during a hot season.

I thought I was quoted one price over the phone, but was charged a different price. He didn't come with the water panel so we needed to wait 30 minutes for someone to bring him one. He had moved heavy furniture to replace the panel but did not move the furniture back. I had to ask someone to help me move it back. I wrote the company owner a letter for a refund of $50 but did not hear back.
