After purchasing 2 units from Russel's /American Mechanical , I was in need of another unit. After the last unit was installed, there was a lot of smoke coming from it and I needed to stay up all night to make sure there wasn't a fire. They did come the next day and fix the issue. This time, I compared with other companies in the area and found they had much higher quote for a slightly bigger unit. They didn't even know the square footage of the area in which it was being used. I requested a discount due to the other quotes and considering the danger they had created with the last installation (inhaling smoke and possibility of fire) . I was told it was not possible.

The recent sewer replacement work by American Mechanical for Holly Bend Condo Association was not completed in a professional manner. Our electrical supply to our security lighting was cut and not reconnected. Two cars have been broken into since. A sharp price of rebar was left exposed and one of our owners was injured requiring medical assistance and time off from work. They didn’t fill in a long hole in the parking lot and we have had to fill it in ourselves. They left the work area with large mounds of dirt, cut bushes and tree limbs. For the expense of this job, you fell short and have yet to provide any remedy to these issues.

Both assignments earned failing grades Update: Long time School teacher here. Gave them 2 Assignments and they earned 2 FAILING GRADES 07/19/22 - do not trust : part 1 - had a rental property I had a service contract with the this company was supposed to come out twice a year. they have not been out in over 16 months so I called to cancel and they charged me for the remaining 10 months of this existing contract that they renewed without any notification....even though they have not fulfilled their part of the agreement which was twice a year service. part 2 on my home address they wanted to sell me a whole new system even though I already had a train system that was only four years old. Ended up having a company that does not sell the equipment but services air conditioners come out and it was simply a $15 part they need to be replaced. Original post; As a longtime Virginia Beach High School teacher i would have to grade them with the comment "not quality work". I had this company out in to take a look at my system.. They did help drain a clogged drain pipe. Then they fumbled around with the air handler wiring for quite some time suggesting that it was not wired properly...made many adjustments(all good). My issue is that the next time the A/C kicked on the air handler shorted out! (thinking must be do to the wiring change). So they send another technician out. He says the same thing "wiring all messed up" so he messes with the same wiring the other tech, from same company, previously messed with. he can't figure out what caused the fuse to blow so he tells me my split system board must be bad and disconnects. Now i have no split system and no clue where we left the wiring as they want to charge me to replace much. System only 3 years old. Bottom line! = they left it in worse shape than they found it.!!!!

Overall happy with the work done. The technician came quickly despite a busy schedule. Quickly identified the issue. And gave me some suggestions and showed me points of concern with my leaky pipe. Only downside was that I was a little uncomfortable that the technician who came out didn't wear a mask while walking around the house. I didn't mind while they were actually doing the work, but would have preferred they wear a mask while walking around. I also recognize I could have asked them to wear a mask, but also not sure I should have to. I would hire again, but would communicate it a bit more clearly.

It was in my attic but it broke down. There was a 30 day warranty but because it was outside of that time frame, the labor was not covered and I had to pay them an additional $225 to fix it. With it being in the attic, it would be difficult to know of this issue in a timely manner. I have used them a lot in the past and I just wish they would have waived that charge this time.

With a home built in 1924, getting her up to code & functioning at full capacity is a Project. American Mechanical has & we are confident, will continue providing us with professional technicians as we continue with renovations. Terrific customer service! We appreciate receiving a text & email reminders of appointments to include a photo of the person coming to the home! Having all services under one roof is great!

HVAC replacement was & is an ongoing disaster. The air handler was too big for the space which forced them to re-plumb the cold water line to the hot water heater which resulted in a slow leak in the ceiling. They didn't have heat strips or the air purifier that was included in the contract. It would have been nice if they had called to let us know before hand so we could have rescheduled to a time when they had all the parts. The air filter bracket was jerry rigged and has large gaps where unfiltered air can get into the system. They wanted to put the outside unit on top of a six story oceanfront building without bolting it down. Promised call from president never came. This is in a short term rental. It looks like we are going to have to cancel the renters who are due to arrive tomorrow. I will be happy to modify this review if and when American Mechanical makes things right.

They Located the leak, replaced the portion that leaked and re-cemented the part that they cut out to access the leak. The cut access was no larger than what was required and the patch area is small about 1.5 square foot. This was done quickly and professionally. Everything was cleaned up. We were very pleased with the repair. In a word professional!? the cost includes locating the leak under the driveway and repair.

Their work was top notch, but their scheduling needs some major improvement. Called for electrical outlet repair. They scheduled me for the next day which was nice, and I told them I couldn't be home until later in the afternoon which they said they would work to accommodate. So far so good. The next day the dispatcher called me in the morning and said I was next on the list. Reminded them that I wasn't available until later, again they said they would accommodate. Little annoying to repeat myself, but at least they were working around me. However, by 5 o'clock had not heard any word. Called and was told I was next on the list for "Jared". 8 o'clock rolls around and still no show. Called again and got their after-hours answering service who said they would page a tech. Pretty frustrated at this point. About 9 o'clock the tech calls and is on his way. Not happy that I got run around like this, but fortunately the electrician, Mclean, was really good. Knew his stuff, professional, and personable. Fixed the problem (dryer outlet) and even fixed the dryer vent hose that had a small tear in it while he was back there. Price was a bit steep, even though it was an Angie's List deal. So I suppose the bottom line is they do great work, as long as you can actually get them out there.
