Direct Energy

This person came to my home asking to see my power bill and promised lower rates than my provider. If you Google Direct Energy, countless articles, Reddit and Facebook posts paint a picture of this company. They use pushy sales tactics to get you to sign a contract, promise you a lower rate than your service provider that ends up being (in some cases) twice the cost and make it extraordinarily difficult to cancel. Do not answer for these ghouls and report them to the police, as they likely do not have solicitation permits.

Absolute scammers! Don't use! Electric bill used to be in the 50s and it kept getting higher and higher each month up to 200. After we cancelled went straight back down. They basically stole our money. Don't listen to them. If you happen to fall for it, just call your primary electric company to make sure it's off your account. Direct energy cancelled on their end but wouldn't give us a confirmation number or email. Didn't trust them so called the primary electric company after cancelling with them.

Reading the reviews is interesting as Direct Energy is NOT a scam artist. In fact they are one of the top suppliers in North America. They buy energy in the wholesale market to sell to end users. The utility (I see PSE&G mentioned a few times) has a "price to compare" on their bill. This should be the price you need to look for when signing up for service. Hope this clears up a few things.

Scam artists, I was automatically enrolled by my township in this program. They buy electric from PSE&G and then sell it back to you at twice the price. I contacted the township and they stated what Direct Energy Services is doing is against the law and violates the contract with the township. That's all well and good, but the homeowners are left paying the bill off, its being billed as a charge through PSE&G, so if you don't pay they will shut off your gas and electric.

Do not trust these scam artists. Do not get duped like me. I did sign up then I realized what I’d done and cancelled next day. Spoken to them THREE times and keep getting different confirms but no one seems to be able to tell me if I am officially cancelled. I have a paper trail and also a sent a written cancel request by certified mail to be even more certain. I will go court if they try to bill me one damned cent. Call the damn police if they come to your door!!

Stay away from this company. They are scammers they told you your bill will be lower but it's not true. They called me I thought they were affiliated with nj natural gas. After one year I realized I was paying $80 extra on my bill every month. My normal bill was $100 after they came on my bill was $300. The utility company was charging $0.30 per kwh while they are charging $0.90 ....STAY AWAY!!!

Very poor service. The terms are unreasonable. I live in an apartment, and I signed up for a 20 month plan. Shame on me for not reading the fine print, but they are going to charge me an early cancellation fee for moving to an area that they do not service. It's a trap, and IT'S NOT ANY LESS EXPENSIVE. They promised less expensive energy costs, but it was actually more. Horrible company. Makes me so angry. Life's too short to be this angry. Ugh!

If you have these rip off artists, cancel ASAP You get two bills for the utilities, AND they actually end up costing you more money. Called to disconnect service and got reconnected within 24hrs. Called the real utilities and they disconnected the service no problem.

Biggest SCAM OF MY LIFE !!!!!!! Please please stay away and DO NOT fall into the trap that I did my bill before them was only $80 a month and after they scammed me I was paying $380-$400 dollars a MONTH!!!! I was very Naïve because I listened to what they said about saving me money and now I’m trying to contact these scam artist to take me out their list of victims!! I’m so angry I noticed the change a year and a half ago but I didn’t understand what was causing it until recently when I took a closer look on my bill( I usually pay online so I didn’t see that they were billing me a separate rate all this time!) JUST BE CAREFUL AND DONT DO IT

These ladies show up at my door with no business card in a community that has no access for anyone who doesn’t live here to get in. They seemed a bit confused as if they were new but I am not new to the game. They had no business cards and acted as if they work hand in hand with the electric company and the first thing they said was I've received notices and they can point it out to me on my bill. I told them I am busy and they insisted on coming back. Then I call the company who says they no longer have door to door reps and I said really because they just left and I asked to be transferred to the residential side and what do you know?! The person who answered the phone said door to door supervisor!!! I filed a report and let them know that they need to remove this entire development from the list, if I see them walking around here at all, I will call the authorities for trespassing.

SCAM They use very shady sales techniques and try to get you to show your Pse&G bill. There is a number on that bill that they are after. With that number, they can change your electric and gas supply to theirs and before you know it, you are locked into a contract.

Person came to my house today and let me believe they were with NJNG, wanted to see my bill so they could correct a charge. Long story short I told her I do nothing without doing my research (thank goodness I did) I gave her my number to call me but I am very doubtful she will call me back. If she does, I will tell her why I will not change from NJNG. Shame on the company for advising their people to mislead you to even speak with them. I was very nice to her, but shame on me for even thinking it might be real. So much for being nice I guess. I dodged a bullet here

Someone came to my home on President's Day saying they worked with PSEG and the township. Why someone working for the township would be out on President's Day was the first red flag. Anyway, I let him go on. He said something about us overpaying on our energy bill and wanted to help us save on our bill. He asked to see our bill, which I showed him (I wish I hadn't). He started doing some calculations and copying information from our bill on to his tablet. He asked to come into our home and began entering information into his tablet. He then said someone was going to call me and ask some questions and if they asked if he was there I should say "no" as it was illegal for him to be in my home due to insurance purposes. The whole thing seemed like a scam to me. I asked him to show me ID and he showed me some bogus-looking ID saying he was a consultant in training. I should have taken a picture of it. I did some quick online research while he stood there and realized immediately this was a bad idea. I sent him on his way. I also called PSE&G to ensure no one was trying to tinker with our account. Bottomline, this company seems really unethical. STAY away!

There is no way to give a zero or negative rating to them or else I would have. Signed up for 6 (Six) accounts with Direct Energy. First of all they give you the false illusion of reducing your electric bill. after one reduced bill you are back to normal and in most of the cases the bill went up across the board. Second of all if you bring that to their attention they will pretend to care but no action is taken. It took 4 faxes and a letter to the better business bureau and the board of public utilities to get them to respond. Upon calling them back again there was a lack to response and no action taken. How is this firm allowed to even operate. Another prime example of corruption in the state and energy market place.

Direct Energy called and left a message "This is PSE&G CONCERNING YOUR BILL, CALL US BACK AND HAVE YOUR BILL AVALABLE" So I called back worried if payment was lost.. Cust service asked me to read Acct and a PoD #, how much I can save during the summer months and the lockin rate which was about $50+ dollars compared to my current bill Sounded Great. Then DE asked So many questions so I asked R U Pse&g? No we are Direct Energy. I told DE let me do some research. I was under the illusion that they were affiliated with pse&g. Update 7/11: change from one ☆ to ☆☆☆☆. After speaking to a customer representative I had knowledge on what are kilowatt rates, how rates goes up how Direct Energy rate would locked in. After about 35 minutes of notes I did my research.. compared my current carrier rates to Direct Energy rates Direct Energy rate is almost 1/4 lower then my current carrier so I call my current carrier my rate .129, Direct Energy is .013 yup 129 vs 013, so it's a no-brainer I went for it and Wallah 1/4 goes back in my pocket that's a lot of grilling and cigars good looking out Direct Energy👍. Now keep in mind if you use the same kilowatt as the lock in rate your bill will be the same if you use more kilowatts your bill is going to be a little bit more but the rate still will be the same. A guy came today ringing my door bell. He had his ID on his pant but turned blank side to me (probably deliberately). He attempted "a talk to confuse me" by getting into green energy etc etc.... He kept saying that he was not a selling anything. I brought him to the point and asked him to give his business card & info brochure for my research. He said they are not supposed to carry & give anything. What a joke. Pathetic & pitiable - he decided to run away from me. Don't even open the door, they are trying to confuse you with First Energy who is the sole distributor of electricity in my region.

Nothing but scam artists. Your people came out to my house yesterday pretending to be affiliated with PSEG that we had to go with them if we didn't want a variable rate. I called PSEG at which they advised me I did not have to do anything. I am reporting your people to the federal trade commission for scammers. How dare you!

Just like Comcast and the sky high rates at end of contract. There were charging me literaly double per kilowat hour over PSEG rate for months after initial contract expired. Could not even rectify rate with rate lowwer than PSEGs offer. Great bussiness model...... Screw thy customer

Class Action lawsuit !! Thank goodness I recorded my conversation, which included among other things a "promise to reduce my monthly gas supply costs substantially" with the young rep from this company. Lets get the ball rolling on our lawsuit. DO NOT USE!!

I used this company for a few years without keeping track. I finally noticed my rate was much higher than it used to be so I cancelled them (way too late). Now they call me three times a day. I never answer, I blocked them.

Great company, that is if you want to pay the most for electric! ! Make sure you have a contract with them, and know when it runs out! Or expect to pay more then double the going rates! Their anwser to this, quote ( because we can, it's legal )

Spam called me on my cell even though I have been on the DO NOT CALL registry since its inception. I called them with my concern and they hung up on me without even asking for my information. They are violating the FTC rules. I am going to file a complaint in a few minutes.

They knocked on our door at 8:40pm asking about our JCPL bill. They woke up my wife and my dog. I'm sitting around in my underwear.I had no idea what they were talking about but clearly they were ignoring the NO SOLICITING signs at the Condo

They promised us lower prices. The prices were higher. When we cancelled the service they sent us a bill for $99 cancellation fee.
