WARNING - make sure you get a fully price estimate up front before they begin to do work. I brought them in to work on furnace/AC unit/split AC unit servicing garage (based on a promotional price for the first two). It was found my split unit needed a recharge for coolant and I was told that it'd only be 5 lbs of coolant and that this would be priced by the pound (which was reasonable). The bill came and they tacked on a flat charge of $219 for the coolant (this is in addition to the $129 charge to look over the split unit). I felt baited-and-switched. I also contacted them about this, and the answer came down to "This is additional profit for us added onto your bill." Not pleased. At all. Particularly since the coolant in question costs approximately $6 per pound and they only used 5 lbs (one would assume that the $129 charge built in enough profit for labor/licenses/equipment due to the limited time spent working on the split unit. Apparently not). Comfort By Design does excellent work, and they do stand by their work, but just be VERY CAREFUL in finding out what they're going to charge you, particularly if something extra comes up when they're doing a job.

They scheduled the work quickly and resolved it promptly. Costs are fair and would definitely work with them again.

After reading all of the horror stories people tell about HVAC companies, I feel a little out of place writing a raving positive review about the company I do business with. From the call to schedule a service to the salesperson helping us decide which stove best fits our needs to the technicians who install or service our equipment, every contact with Comfort by Design is like living in a commercial where everything goes right. The company always lives by its quotes, the technicians always go beyond the expected, and for the first time in my life I am not tempted to do the work myself to avoid the hassle and disappointment when the work isn't done well, quickly, or for the price I expected. If they keep this up, I won't know how to do anything for myself in a couple of years.

It was great.

I have had no issues with the quality. They are probably the best person I have ever had from a contractor's perspective to come out.

They are absolutely top notch. They do a wonderful job. We never call anybody else.

The removal of the old stove and the install of the new wood stove was done well, they were careful not to damage the floors or walls. But the pipe from the new wood stove to the chimney vent on the wall has gaps in it. At 3 joints there are 1/4" to 1/2" gaps between the pipes. So when you are lighting the stove unless you burn it very hot you get smoke back up filling the basement. And a day after you let the fire go out the whole basement reeks of smoke for a couple of weeks. I can feel air leaking out of the pipe. When I contacted them they said the problem was not enough air in the house so they had me try opening a window, but that dosen't really solve the problem. After multiple calls to their office they finally sent someone out to look at it, but the appointment was rescheduled by them a couple of times. When the tech from their office looked at the stove he said it looked like a problem and they would sent someone to fix the pipe, but later they called back and said nothing was wrong. Now I don't disagree that our house may have negative pressure making it hard to get a fire started, but I am sure the pipe from the wood stove to the chimney should not have any leaks. I can fit my fingers in the gap in the connection from the stove itself to the pipe going to the chimney, this can't be right. I am very disappointed with the service provided by Comfort by Design, I will never use them again and recommend everybody else look for a different vendor also.

They were the installers when the system was built. It was good. The workers and the staff are excellent.

It's 8 PM, 80 degrees outside with the same for humidity, and I noticed that the temperature in the house is getting warm. After doing some troubleshooting, I found out the compressor for the A/C had shut off. I called Comfort By Design's emergency number and within minutes the technician that was on call, called me back. He explained that since the outside temperature was dropping to the 60's that evening, that maybe we should wait until morning to perform a repair, IF a suggestion he made did not pan out. So come morning, the compressor was still not working, I called their office at 7:15 and scheduled a technician to come out. Being that it was starting to get very warm and the calls were coming in, I figured that it would be late in the afternoon. To my pleasant surprise, they were at the house by 8:30, and 15 minutes later they had it fixed (it was a relay that needed to be reset). I was very pleased with the response and the quickness in which the problem was solved. I will continue to use them for my heating and air conditioning needs.

A great experience from a terrific team. After we were told by our (now past) HVAC company that we needed a new furnace, I called Design by Comfort for a second opinion. When I called their office, the woman I spoke to understood my situation immediately and had their team on my doorstep at 8:00 the next morning, on the dot as scheduled. Their service specialist took apart the furnace inspected it and showed me by video the heat exchanger that our original contractor told me was bad.
Based on his very thorough examination, we knew that the furnace did not need replacement.
Obviously, the first company did not tell us the truth about the condition of our furnace so as to sell us a new one even though it was not needed.
The Design by Comfort team was honest, professional, and highly responsive. They saved me thousands of dollars. When the time comes, and it always does, for us to get a new furnace, they will certainly get our business.
This company appears to be intent on damaging the poor reputation of plumbers everywhere. I sent Comfort by Design an email through Angie's List on Sunday, the day before what was projected to be (and was) the hottest day of the summer when I'd discovered the A/C in our new home didn't work. I meant to take care of this all spring and early summer, but we had a mild year and this was our first summer in this house which meant I have more than enough to deal with without looking for problems. I didn't expect an immediate response, let alone a call first thing Monday morning saying the tech would be at our place that afternoon.
There were more than a few things wrong, but he kept at it until he had it working and left us with a cool, comfortable home and a bill that was about half of what I'd expected. This is the third project I've used Comfort by Design on and they have performed beyond my expectations every time. I can not recommend this company strongly enough. Whoever is doing the hiring for Comfort by Design's field techs is an expert at the job and deserves a raise, as do all of their techs.
Thanks for your great service and for making our new home more comfortable (by Design?).
I had an EXCELLENT experience with Comfort By Design (Hudson location) starting with Aaron who came out to give me a quote on replacing my Furnace/AC to the guys that installed it all. Aaron thoroughly explained all of my options and provided me an estimate right then and there. He communicated with me very promptly on any questions I had when I was deciding what to get. Everything he said (quietness, quality, what was included in the price, etc) was exactly what he promised. The guys who installed it both knew what they were doing, were very professional and cleaned up everything as if they were never there. They also were there exactly when they said they would be.
Comfort by Design is very reasonable and left me feeling good knowing what I spent my money on! My only regret is wasting time getting 3 other quotes. STRONGLY RECOMMEND!!!
